Frio County Ranch Land

Frio County lies partly in the rich agricultural area of South Texas ranch land that’s known as the Winter Garden Region. Bordered by Atascosa County to the east, Zavala to the west, Medina to the north and LaSalle to the south, Frio, like most areas in South Texas, has a terrain that varies from flat to slightly sloping. Frio County ranch land is also quintessentially South Texas, with its thorny brush vegetation and wildlife such as whitetail deer, wild turkey, wild hog, javelina, quail and dove. Frio County ranch land with sandy red soil is often sought-after by those interested in hunting and maintaining healthy wildlife populations.

Named for the Frio River, Frio County has an area totaling 1,134 square miles and a recent population estimate of 16, 336 people. Its county seat, Pearsall, is also the largest community in terms of population, with a total of 7,768 residents. The city of Dilley, with an estimated 4,145 residents, is the only other community of significant size in Frio.

Apart from the hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing that the region is famous for, Frio County’s other attractions include historical buildings and landmarks and the Big Foot Wallace Museum.
