Life in George West, Texas

George West claims the title of the Storytelling Capital of Texas. Like most Texas towns, they have a festival in honor of their specialties, in this case, it’s storytelling. Storyfest is enjoying almost three decades of success as it continues to pass down local history in a series of live demonstrations.

On occasion, you’ll hear tall tales being told in the Texas State Liars’ Competition held in conjunction with Storyfest. It’s fun to listen to the participants spin wild fables during heated competition.

Then there is Winterfest, a celebration of the season we don’t see much of in this part of Texas. Organizers make the most of our temperate climate, though. They somehow pull off creating an ice rink and other outdoor fun for kids of all ages. Plus there’s food. It wouldn’t be a Texas festival without good food. Best of all, it’s a free event. Bring the family and friends to experience Winterfest.
